NARS Audacious Lipstick in 'Lana'. I swatched this radiant orangey-red color a few weeks ago and promised myself I'd buy it only if I finally got my act in gear and started tracking every day in #weightwatchers. Two weeks later, I was down three pounds, just in time to pick up this (and a few other lovely goodies) in the Sephora Friends & Family sale. I guess if anything will get me motivated, it's a seriously sexy red lipstick.
NARS Grace
NARS Audacious Lipstick in 'Grace'. The last of my 3 Audacious colors, this one's not quite red, not quite pink, not quite coral, but quite entirely fabulous. Each of the Audacious colors are named for a certain Hollywood starlet, and I'm assuming this color's namesake is Grace Kelly. Speaking of Grace Kelly, have you all heard of a podcast called You Must Remember This? I heard Sali Hughes mention it once and checked it out for the first time last week, and discovered it's the most incredible resource for Old Hollywood Gossip Junkies like myself. I listened to the stories on Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and Grace Kelly, and I learned such delicious dirt about all three women that I didn't know before. Highly recommended listening, especially while wearing your vampiest red lipstick.
NARS Greta
NARS Audacious Lipstick in 'Greta'. I know what you may be thinking: Exactly how many magenta lipsticks does this girl need? The answer: As many as it takes.
This is my lovely friend and colleague Erika wearing 'Greta' on a snowy day in NYC. Erika had been sent to NYC on a business trip where logistics went terribly awry due to Winter Storm Stella. To cheer her up, I sent @postmates to the Midtown Manhattan Sephora and had this little lippy delivered to her hotel room. As I had hoped, it was quite delightfully received. ✨🎁💄😁The only thing better than buying yourself a lovely, luxurious lipstick is gifting one to someone else and seeing her fabulous smile get even prettier when she wears it.👄😘
NARS Raquel
NARS Audacious Lipstick in 'Raquel'. For me, this is a tough nude to wear for anything other than a 60s-themed costume party. And since my invites to 60s-themed costume parties are few and far between, I rarely wear this one. Unlike the very sheer Lancôme 'Nuit & Jour' I posted yesterday, NARS Audacious lipsticks are opaque but creamy. I think even an opaque/matte formula would be more forgiving than this, since the creamy texture tends to move around and get trapped in my lip lines. If you're bold enough to try this, though, give it a go! A bold black eyeliner probably wouldn't hurt, either.
NARS Schiap
NARS lipstick in 'Schiap'. I picked her up after realizing my tube of MAC 'Girl About Town' had up and ditched me, that little tramp. Just as well, since I prefer Schiap's texture to GAT anyway. Also, I'm a sucker for the fuzzy feel of NARS's plasticized tubes. Side note: makeup counter folks and beauty vloggers alike seem to be all over the place in their pronunciations of "Schiap", but since it was named in homage to Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli, I'm putting my money and 2.5 years of college Italian toward the pronunciation "Skyahp". Then again, I get great joy out of passive aggressive pronunciation battles at makeup counters ("I'll take 'skyahp'"// "Oh, 'shy-app'? Here it is."), so it might be nice to keep the mystery alive.
